Blog Post 6: Social Media and Community Communications

Diverse and inclusive PLN in the social media that understands the places of origin with messages that impact the community is essential because it creates an opportunity to learn from diverse cultures. Sharing statements from across cultures creates an opportunity to recognize the differences and similarities with people from other communities, thus creating a chance for acting in a social justice manner (Jansen, Pooley & Lora, 2011). These practices minimize cases for social injustice, thus preventing racism.

Social media plays an essential role in community-based communication because it creates an opportunity for individuals to post a message, thus gaining reaction from followers and colleagues. This information indicates that social media platforms have become the source of community engagement because it connects people from different cultures, thus providing people with an opportunity to learn about their ideas from others’ views (Kim & Kim, 2017). For instance, posting an argument or opinion on social media platforms creates room for people to share their ideas with the community.

Social media challenge community-based communications challenges community-based communication because it increases diversity, thus creating a chance for collecting opinions from different people. Social media platforms generate diversification among people from different locations into a standard page, breaking the challenges and misunderstandings that could result when one community views their behavior and actions as superior to others (Jansen et al. 2011).  Social media promotes diversity, reducing cases of community-based communication that supports diversification.

When communicating in community engagement, there are some extended rules from the employer that should be considered.  Employers usually develop laws that govern operations in a diverse community to avoid misunderstandings. For instance, using common language and creating a governing structure that reflects an individual’s expectations and culture is essential (Christensen, 2018). The cultural sensitivity that should be considered includes language, dressing code, and perception of rewards.

As I communicate to the public via social media or other communication tools, my personal learning plan indicates that I recognize justice and the importance of avoiding racism because the messages target culturally diversified members. This trait reflects through the use of language that supports people irrespective of their cultures and neutral language.

When developing a PLN for career development, it is essential to balance professional expectations and personal beliefs. This approach indicates that personal beliefs should be shaped to meet professional expectations because it creates an opportunity to understand the behaviors needed to support the community. For instance, career development requires an individual to be able to function in a diversified society. Therefore, balancing career professionals and PLN avoids cases of racism because of over-reliance on personal beliefs.

The analysis indicates that I should consider the PLN plan to acknowledge the importance of working with people from different cultures. Social media communication changes create a chance for people from different cultures to understand the views that people from other communities should have regarding their behavior. Therefore, the evolving nature of social media communication means people should consider these differences.

Hi Jiani, you touched on a lot of great points and made me think about how technology has made communication so much easier, especially in terms of enlarging your PLN. Sometimes people can use it in a negative way to hide behind the anonymity of social media and i think you did a great job in recognizing the importance of being respective in the language one chooses to use when engaging with others online.

    Hi Jiani,

Thank you for sharing your blog post. I really liked how you use professional resources to explain your ideas. I agree with your opinions about that the role of social media in community-based communication is to create an opportunity for people to post messages and gain reaction from others. In my opinion, people can not only share their ideas and experience with each other during the communication, but also can be connected with each other and learn from each other. In my opinion, your post is very informative and clear for me.
