Blog Post 9: PLN and Communications

PLN and Communications

Community communication in social media platforms and blogs creates a challenge in generating news or content used to enhance thoughts in a Personal learning network. Social media and blogs achieve this objective by creating an opportunity to generate ideas from wit different life experiences and thoughts that create a chance for learning. However, these PLN avenues hinder development and learning by creating a context in which content creators and receivers play different roles (Meikle, 2016). This problem arises from generating ideas from different backgrounds, thus creating cultural opinions and life experiences. The opposing views make it difficult to address the differences.

The increased flow of online information has created a challenge in content curation to generate knowledge, preventing bias. However, people can promote curation and prevent bias by implementing a PLN plan where they remain aware of the recently discussed topics and curate the best resources (Mooney, 2020). This strategy requires effective analysis and organizing information to filter relevant information, thus preventing discrimination.

The identity of who I am as a student fits in my PLN. I have achieved this objective by creating an online space through a social media platform that allows the exchange of ideas within my career profession and academics. The platform’s objective is well stated, and all members should have interests in academics and my career profession. This approach minimizes the flow of non-relevant information that could hinder learning.

This approach indicates that I have a strong boundary in my PLN regarding professional and personal life. This approach’s central objective is to ensure that I have an opportunity to enhance the benefits that create an opportunity for preventing the flow of unnecessary information or interfering with professional information (Meikle, 2016). In effect, sorting the relevant information in the professional PLN plays an essential role in gaining the relevant content, thus expanding my skills.

    Hi Jiani,

Thank you for sharing your blog post. The ideas that you shared and reflected in your post are very informative, detailed, and clear. Good reflection! I agree that “the problem arises from generating ideas from different backgrounds, thus creating cultural opinions and life experiences”. Therefore, in my opinion, a diverse and inclusive PLN is quite important. Also, in an inclusive PLN, we should not only need to accept hear from different voices, but also need to respect to a variety of perspectives from other people.
